It was cold out there today, but hopefully the 450 LIDS students practicing band at Monterey High School this afternoon will have warmer weather when they march in Pasadena on January 2nd. That's because all four high school bands at LISD have been invited to march in the Rose Bowl parade.
Ten buses will leave Lubbock two days after Christmas for this nearly two week expedition, so what do you do if one or two or two hundred kids need a doctor for something along the way? LISD has lined up Dr. Mike Ragain, along with a couple of nurses, to provide a mobile clinic on this road trip.
"Kids these days have lots of chronic health conditions, so some kids have diabetes. And there are other kind of chronic health issues; asthmas out there. With that many kids together, you're going to figure that they're going to be some illnesses, stomach bug, or upper respiratory bugs. But I'm along as kind of an insurance policy to make sure everything goes smoothly."
This is a side note, but since Dr. Ragain has a daughter in one of these bands, he has been told by her that he will not be riding in the Lubbock High clarinet bus.
