Hocker sworn in as new Lubbock County judge

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Wednesday morning Mark Hocker was officially sworn in as judge for Lubbock County Court at Law No.1.

The position was formally held by the late Judge Rusty Ladd, who died from injuries in a motorcycle accident back in September.

Hocker says it's a great honor to be sworn in:

"To have the vote of the commissioner for this position, to have the support of my family here today, to have the support of Judge Ladd's family and his wife, Irene, here to hold the bible for this swearing in...Wow!"

Hocker says his first priority will be to keep the court moving with what is already set on the calendar for January.

Hocker was appointed to fill Ladd's seat until the next election in November of 2012. David Nelson, Scott Morris and Douglas H. Freitag have filed to run against Hocker in the next GOP primary.
