Salvation Army prepares to serve 500 meals this Christmas

WHAT: The Salvation Army of Lubbock is preparing to serve a traditional Christmas dinner to an estimated 500 individuals in need from the Lubbock community. These individuals will receive a traditional Thanksgiving meal, plus extra dessert to go. Last year, The Salvation Army served 656 meals on Christmas.

WHO: Individuals and families in need from the Lubbock community.

WHEN: Sunday, December 25, 2011

Volunteers to begin preparation at 7:00 a.m.

Media to arrive between 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Melody Paton available for interviews 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Dinner served from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Lieutenant Jana Griffin to give invocation at 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: The Salvation Army Family Housing Facility and Emergency Shelter

1614 Avenue J (intersection of Avenue J and 17th Street)

The Salvation Army also provides food boxes to individuals in need during Christmas. This year 2,100 families, representing over 6,700 individuals, will receive Christmas food boxes.
