The holiday travel season is underway and Lubbock drivers are on the road.
DPS troopers are watching the roads to help keep drivers in check. They've been out in force since Dec. 20 and will remain there through New Year's Day.
"We're encouraging people that we're vigilant out there. We want everyone to have a safe holiday. The idea I'd like for everyone to slow it down. Please buckle up. Don't drink and drive. That's the big issue that we're having right now and next weekend as well," John Gonzalez with the Department of Public safety said.
Troopers say this time last year they arrested 1,000 DWI suspects. They also issued 17,000 speeding tickets and 2,000 seatbelt violations.
