At our house, we've always told the kids that Santa will bring them two presents at Christmas. One year, my youngest came to me and said "Dad, I thought Santa just brought two presents." I said 'that's right Christopher'. " Well, Jonathon down the street has 21. How did that happen?" So I tried to explain to Christopher that it's not about the number of presents you get. It's about the spirit of Christmas and the giving. That's what counts.
Giving to those who are less fortunate or who are going through hard times is the true meaning of the holidays. One of many things that has impressed me here in Lubbock is your effort as a community to feed the hungry during the holidays. That's why I'm proud that for the first time, Texas Tech Physicians of Lubbock joined the effort by collecting 6,000 pounds of food and raising $1,676 to help buy food for the hungry. I am proud to be from Lubbock where so many people stepped up and gave to the You Can Share Food Drive, including our Texas Tech Physicians. This is sure to become a tradition we continue here every year.
I hope you enjoyed some family time and family traditions today. But remember, the kids don't go back to school for another week, so you still have time to make some family memories.
I'm Dr. Tedd Mitchell wishing you a very, Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. This is the President's Prescription.
