New year brings new water conservation rules to the South Plains

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The new year brings new water restrictions from the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District.

The district covers 16 counties including Lubbock. The new rules will restrict farmers as well as cities such as Lubbock that pump water from a well.

Local cotton farmers are concerned. Lubbock-based "Plains Cotton Growers" formed a committee to look at the restrictions.

In early January, PCG will look at the committee's report and make a decision about possibly lobbying the district for changes.
