Ronnie Rene Vasquez
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
KCBD NewsChannel 11 is still waiting on official word about what will happen with County Constable Ronnie Vasquez. This much we do know: Vasquez will not be Precinct 3 Constable for much longer. Vasquez did not sign up in either the Republican or Democratic primaries.
Back in November, Vasquez turned himself in to Lubbock police after he was charged with aggravated assault. It was the second time that he had been accused of a crime while serving as a peace officer in Lubbock County. The first time was a criminal trespass case in February.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 has not been able to confirm reports that Vasquez is planning on resigning. His term ends December 31, 2012, but we can confirm that only two persons have signed up to run for election for Constable in Precinct 3. They are Marina L. Garcia and Richard Mendez, both running as Democrats.
On the Republican side, Constables Paul Hanna, Joe Pinson, and Carroll Allen Thomas have all signed up to run for re-election. Jay A. McCormick has signed up to challenge Hanna in Precinct 1.
As of Monday, Vasquez has not returned calls to KCBD NewsChannel 11, and the officials we were able to contact over the holiday weekend had not been given any formal notice of Vasquez' intentions.
