Two crosswalks removed from Frenship High School

Provided by Frenship Independent School District

Frenship Independent School District and the Texas Department of Transportation have eliminated two crosswalks on Highway 179 in Wolfforth between Frenship High School and Peoples Bank Stadium, leaving only one crosswalk on the street as a designated crossing point.

The only crosswalk designated by TxDOT as a crossing point of Highway 179 lies directly in front of the main entrance of Frenship High School.

The north crossing at the intersection of Highway 179 and Donald Preston Drive as well as the south crossing at the intersection of Highway 179 and Bobby Davis Drive are no longer designated as crosswalks.

The extra crosswalks were removed because of their proximity with busy intersections, and with the growth of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in front of the high school, these two crosswalks were deemed a higher risk to pedestrians.

This change will take effect when the students return to school on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Violators are subject to law enforcement citations being issued. Please refer to this link for more information of Texas laws that refer to crosswalks.
