For the first time, University Medical Center has confirmed that Vice President Greg Bruce is the employee being investigated by Federal authorities. They have also confirmed that Bruce was asked to resign from his position as the Vice President of Corporate Services at the hospital.
Bruce's letter of resignation was dated December 22nd. Just five days later, UMC announced that an internal audit had uncovered possible employee embezzlement. They stated the investigation had resulted in Bruce's resignation.
UMC has not said how much money was involved or taken.
In a conversation over the phone Thursday, Lois Wischkaemper, UMC's General Council, officially confirmed to KCBD NewsChannel 11, that Bruce was in fact the employee who was being investigated. She also confirmed, for the first time, that he was asked to resign from the hospital, rather than doing so on his own.
Wischkaemper went on to say that UMC is not being investigated by Federal authorities.
KCBD contacted Bruce by telephone Thursday to ask if he had any information on the investigation. He stated that he had no comment.
