The city elections are May 15th, but Monday was the first day for candidates to file for five of the most influential positions in Lubbock.
The terms for District 4 Councilman Frank Morrison and District 6 Councilman Jim Gilbreath end in May and both men have announced they will run again. Mayor Marc McDougal and District 2 Councilman T.J. Patterson have said they intend to seek re-election.
In addition to those races, a special election will be held for the District 1 seat that Councilman Victor Hernandez currently holds. Hernandez is resigning to run for municipal judge against incumbent Robert Doty.
Filing for city offices continues until March 15th.
