Thirty more Covenant employees are out of a job. The layoffs are part of Covenant's ongoing efforts to reduce the size of its managerial structure. In addition to the elimination of 30 positions, 20 other managers were demoted or re-assigned to other duties in the hospital.
Last month, Covenant laid off fifteen Vice Presidents and Directors, and with the 30 additional cuts Friday, that brings the total to 45 employees gone this year.
According to Covenant, there are no other plans for additional layoffs. "At this time we do not believe so that doesn't mean that there won't be at some time in the future but we will very carefully monitor and adjust accordingly but at this time we do not see any additional layoffs," Sharon Prather, Vice-President, Covenant Medical Center.
Last year, there were 159 layoffs at Covenant Medical Center. The hospital blames those cuts on a drop in reimbursements from programs like medicare and medicaid Covenant said that issue is still a concern.
