Mother of scalded 3-year-old arrested

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The mother of the 3-year-old little boy who was held in scalding hot water has been arrested. An arrest warrant was issued Monday afternoon for Candace Sanders and she was taken into custody by Lubbock Police.

Sanders spoke with us last week but did not want to show her face saying she was afraid of her boyfriend, 20-year-old Trenard Nunley.

She told police Nunley put the boy in the bath tub with scalding hot water. He was arrested last week and remains in the Lubbock County Jail.

Nunley and Sanders are both charged with injury to a child, which is a felony.

The boy remains in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital. He has 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering about 35-percent of his body.

In an interview with KCBD last week, Sanders said she did not immediately get medical attention for her son because she feared retribution from Nunley.

We'll have more on this story, including more details from our interview, today at 4, 5 and 6.
