LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Mark Blankenship is now officially the interim school board member for District 3 of LISD.

He was sworn in Wednesday morning during a meeting of the LISD Board of Trustees.

Blankenship says the school board is facing both economic challenges and challenges with standardized testing, but he feels they have the right people and are prepared to deal with them.

"We've got a great superintendent with a great administration here," Blankenship said. "Fantastic board, I think we're going to meet those challenges head on."

District 3 was formally held by Chris Comer who left to take a job in another city.

Blankenship has said he plans to run in the special election coming up in May.
