UMC Health System has been named one of the 2012 Best Companies to work for in Texas, ranking third in the large-company category.

UMC will hold a news conference Monday announcing its selection to the list for the fourth time in five years. The rankings were published in the February edition of Texas Monthly.

The companies were ranked by the Texas Association of Business, the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group. There were 30 companies ranked in the large-company category, which includes businesses with 500 or more employees.

UMC Physician Network Services ranked 23th among medium-sized companies, the second consecutive year PNS has been recognized.

"This is a tremendous honor and a testament to the culture our employees have created," said David G. Allison, UMC president and chief executive officer. "One of the ways UMC has remained financially successful is by retaining our employees and reducing turnover. Our employees want to be here, and that makes a safer environment for patients."

UMC was noted for its Sharing Success incentive program for full and part-time employees, individual employee recognitions, employee banquets and holiday celebrations and incentives for employee suggestions that improve safety and quality.

This is the fourth time in five years UMC has made the Best Companies list, each time ranking in the top 3. A group of UMC and PNS employees will travel to Austin on Feb. 2 for a luncheon honoring companies that made the list.
