Head on collision sends three to the hospital

SLATON, TX (KCBD) -

DPS Troopers are investigating a head on collision that happened in Slaton Saturday evening. The accident happened on Highway 84 and South FM 400 just after 8 p.m.

Troopers are still trying to figure out a cause, but says one of the drivers, Joel Alvarado, was airlifted by Aerocare to UMC. He was upgraded to satisfactory condition on Monday.

Two other people in the other vehicle involved, were taken to Covenant Hospital by ambulance.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 Chief Photographer John Berry says both vehicles sustained major damage.

At one point, several lanes of traffic had to be blocked off as crews worked to clear the scene. Those roads have since re-opened.
