Cancer survivors & Caregivers invited to Choose HOPE Symposium

Cancer survivors and their caregivers are invited to the first-ever Choose H.O.P.E. Symposium hosted by Covenant Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. – noon.  The free event, to be held in the Arnett Room located on the sixth floor of Covenant Women's and Children's, 4000 24th Street, is a celebration that features food, fashion and fun for cancer survivors of any age as well as their families and caregivers.

The symposium will include a variety of activities including a style show with cancer survivors modeling wigs from Wig Trend and clothing from Dillard's.  Various booths will be on display at the symposium with helpful tips and information for cancer survivors and their caregivers including: nutritional information, wigs and accessories, survivor support groups, knitted caps/scarves and more.  The event will also feature a spotlight on oncologists and their patients sharing the story of their personal journey battling and surviving cancer.

"This event is for any cancer survivor and their caregiver to celebrate their ongoing survivorship and to also help inspire others who are still fighting their battle with cancer," Lindsay Webb, project coordinator for the Covenant Foundation, said.

The Choose H.O.P.E. Symposium was created after combining the Lynetta Hibdon Symposium and the Look Good Feel Good Symposium, which were previously held yearly at Covenant for cancer survivors and their caregivers.

"Because the Lynetta Hibdon Symposium and the Look Good Feel Good Symposium were similar events aimed at informing cancer survivors and caregivers, we decided to combine the two events to have one bigger and better symposium.  The end result was the Choose H.O.P.E. Symposium," Webb said.

All cancer survivors and their loved ones are invited to the free event regardless of where they were patients.  A light brunch will be provided and door prizes will be given away every 15 minutes.  For more information about the Choose H.O.P.E. Symposium, call Webb at 806.725.6020.
