UIL realignment shakes up area rivalries

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The landscape for area high school athletics forever changed Thursday when the UIL Realignment Meeting at the Region 17 Service Center shuffled the deck on area sports rivalries.

Lubbock Coronado is the lone area 5A team while Lubbock High and Monterey drop to 4A. In District 2-5A, Coronado is with Abilene High, Abilene Cooper, Amarillo Tascosa, Midland High, Midland Lee, Odessa High,Odessa Permian, and San Angelo Central. 

In District 4-4A, Lubbock High and Monterey are with Hereford, Plainview, Lakeview, and Frenship. 

In District 2-3A, Estacado, Cooper, Levelland, and Shallowater are paired with newcomers Seminole and Andrews. 

Idalou moves up to class 2A Division 1 while Lamesa and Brownfield drop to 2A.  Olton moves up to 2A Division 2. 

Longtime 11-man program Nazareth drops to 6-man.
