Safe Ride program expands to save lives

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Tech Student Government is expanding their Safe Ride driving service. The initiative is aimed to keeping intoxicated students off Lubbock roads traveling to and from local bars.

The bus service, which is operated by Citibus, will begin tonight and will operate from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The route will contain stops on Broadway, in the Depot District and to six apartment complexes in the Overton area.

Amanda Eldredge is a victim's advocate for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and she believes the Safe Bus more needed than people think.

"One in three people will be effected by drunk driving in their lifetime, and every day 28 Americans lose their lives in a drunk driving crash."

Texas Tech students must have a valid student ID to ride the Safe Bus.
