LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man died in the hospital Friday after police say he accidentally shot himself.

Police were called out to the 7600 block of University Avenue around noon Friday after reports of a possible shooting victim.

When they arrived, they found a 65-year-old man lying on the ground outside of his vehicle with an injury to his leg. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Authorities say his weapon somehow went off inside the vehicle and shot him in the leg.
