Dr. Jason Bradley discusses symptoms of heart disease in women

Posted: Updated:

It's estimated that 42 million American women live with cardiovascular disease, and most are unaware of the risk. That's according to the National Coalition of Women with heart disease.  Its slogan is "Ladies, we need to talk".

Well, tonight, we're going to let Dr. Jason Bradley do the talking. He's a cardiologist, and he says there are no hard and fast rules on what a heart attack is going to feel like.   Here's what he most often hears from his women patients.  "They can be chest pains, shortness of breath, sometimes fatigue. But the quality of the chest pain is not the heavy pressure crushing type of sensation. Sometimes it's just a tightness or a dull pain. So I think the key is to listen to any kind of symptoms."

Dr. Bradley says don't forget that smoking is a huge risk for heart disease.  Along with obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, a strong family history of coronary disease, and age, particularly over 60.
