A new study shows increasing numbers in child abuse

Posted: Updated:

An alarming new study shows an increasing incidence of child abuse. The study published in the journal Pediatrics says 58 per 100-thousand kids end up hospitalized with injuries suffered at the hands of a caretaker.

Stand for Families Free of Violence Rep. Gloria Sandoval said, "Parents who don't understand the normal developmental phases of children often don't know how to deal with crying so they may shake a baby, may hit a baby"

The group called Stand for Families Free of Violence encourages parents to make a plan in case they begin to feel overwhelmed by the demands or cries of a child.  Make a plan to walk away, read something, start counting, or take deep breaths until the frustration goes away.
