The outcome of a stroke can depend on how quickly you get help, yet a new study indicates Hispanics are less likely to call 911 at the first sign of a stroke.
Dr. Jeffrey Cavendish with Kaiser Permanente wants to remind everyone that this is a good reason to call for help, "slurring speech, not being able to talk, not being able to find the right words, garbled speech and then loss of vision."
Dr. Cavendish says it's important to get help so that blood flow can be restored to the brain, and the damage will be less. Researchers are still trying to determine what exactly triggers a stroke. According to this study, Hispanic stroke patients tended to be younger, and also tended to be women suffering from diabetes.
