Food For Thought 2.16

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Health inspectors have checked behind the kitchen doors of more than 40 Lubbock restaurants this week to make sure the food you are served is safe to eat. We have ten restaurants with perfect scores, so let's start at the top.

Our tour of perfection starts at Rise N Shine Donuts at 1908 50th Street. You can tempt your taste buds at Chili Dog Café at 5903 82nd. Just down the road, Papa Murphy's Pizza at 6319 82nd and the Papa Murphy's Pizza at 8205 Indiana both sliced through the competition. Fat Tony's Delicatessen at 1101 Main Street's main ingredient was perfection. Freebirds World Burrito at 4930 S. Loop 289 rolls in at the top. Main Event Entertainment at 6010 Marsha Sharp Freeway's grand prize is zero critical violations. Rib Crib at 8211 Slide Road grilled up a perfect score. If you have a sweet tooth, Red Mango Lubbock at 8004 Quaker Avenue and Spoonfull at 411 University both dished up flawless inspections.

Now to our only low performer this week, Church's Fried Chicken at 905 Avenue Q has 6 critical violations. Employees were not washing their hands when putting on or changing gloves or when re-entering the kitchen. A bag of beans was in a hand sink and personal drinks were in a storage room. There were several instances of cross contaminations: an ice scoop handle was touching the ice and a jug of tea was stored next to an open box of raw chicken. There was no soap or paper towels at a hand sink. Oven cleaner was stored with paper towels and liners, and cleaners were stored over uncooked rice and other foods. A whisk was stored in a used, empty, foil sugar bag, there was mold on the back splash of the ice machine, and there were heavy mineral deposits on the hot water dispenser. According to the report, all of these violations were corrected during the inspection. For a complete look at this weeks inspections click here.
