Lubbock bank robber never got far, admits to his crime

Posted: Updated:

Allen Azaryan, 40, of Burbank, California admits that he robbed the downtown Lubbock branch of Wells Fargo Bank.

Azaryan entered his plea Thursday in Lubbock federal court.  He will be sentenced at a later date to no more than 20-years in prison.

On Dec. 8 Azaryn handed a note to one of the tellers indicating a robbery.  What he might not have known is that a plain-clothes Lubbock police officer was also in line to see a bank teller.  Azaryan made it no further than just a few feet outside the front door.  KCBD NewsChannel 11 exclusive video shows the moment of Azaryan's arrest.

Technically Azarayn still faces state bank robbery charges but it is customary for state officials to drop charges once there is a federal conviction for the same crime.
