LPD Investigators have arrested man in east Texas on
12 counts of Online Solicitation of a Minor.
On February 20th, the Lubbock Police Department Internet
Crimes Against Children Task force along with investigators from the League
City Police Department, affected the arrest of Nilanjan Brahma, 50, of League
City TX.
The LPD ICAC and LCPD served three search warrants and one arrest
warrant after a nine month online undercover investigation conducted by the LPD
ICAC.
LPD ICAC Investigators involved in undercover operations entered into an online
chat with the defendant, who believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old
female. Brahma allegedly displayed lewd images of himself and also solicited
the undercover officer for sex. On two separate occasions Brahma discussed
plans to travel to Lubbock to meet with who he thought was a 13 year old
female; however these meetings did not take place.
Brahma was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the
League City Police Department. Brahma is charged with 12 counts of Online
Solicitation of a Minor. Online Solicitation of a Minor is a second degree
felony punishable by imprisonment for 2 to 20 years.
In addition to
imprisonment, a felony of the second degree may be punished by a fine not to
exceed $10,000. Bond was set at $200, 000.00. Brahma was released from the
Galveston County Jail after posting bond.
