An early morning collision with a horse leaves an Idalou man in critical condition and another facing charges. The accident happened around 3:30 Tuesday morning on Highway 62/82, about four miles East of Lubbock.
DPS Trooper John Gonzalez says authorities were responding to a call about horses loose on the roadway, but, Paul Ortiz ran into one of those horses with his car before the animals could be corralled. The horse died on impact.
Forty-two year-old Ortiz has been treated and released from the hospital. He is charged with driving without a license or insurance. He also faces a possible charge of intoxication assault. That's because the passenger, 43-year-old Timothy Putz remains in critical condition at Covenant Medical Center as of Tuesday evening.
