The Texas Tech baseball team received a No. 24 national ranking in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, the publication announced this morning.
It marks the first national ranking for the Red Raiders in a major poll since March 28, 2005, when Tech was tabbed No. 25 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. It is Tech's first ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll since March 7, 2005 (No. 27).
Texas Tech has started the season with a 7-1 overall record with three wins over nationally-ranked opponents, including a pair of wins over then-No. 18 St. John's last week in the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic in Lubbock.
The Red Raiders pitching staff has recorded a 2.01 team ERA with a .296 team batting average. Tech currently has seven pitchers with an ERA under 2.50 and four batters who are hitting at least .340.
Texas Tech completes its nine-game homestand later today hosting Northern Illinois (0-6) for a 5 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
