As muddy as it is outside on Friday, this is definitely pig weather, but two pigs were enjoying the fine life inside at Scottish Rite Learning Center. The Soroptimists brought them by for the kids there to bathe them before their annual Pig Out, which is coming up April 1st.
"Last year, we raised over $6,700 for a one day event, so we think that's quite remarkable, and again, it's just a different twist on your average fundraider, instead of a golf tournament, selling cookie dough, we run 15 pigs all ove the city," says Judy Helm, Soroptimist President.
It will cost you $25 to send a pig to someone on April Fools, likewise, you can pay $25 for pig insurance to keep the pigs away. At any rate, the money raised will go entirely to help the kids with special needs at Scottish Rite Learning Center.
"The Scottish Rite Learning Center does not charge tuition for the students, there's no charge made to the parents of the students to the students who come here, but there are expenses," says Doris Haney, Director, Scottish Rite.
