Lubbock D.A. receives award for support of rape victims

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Matt Powell was honored at a luncheon in San Antonio Wednesday.

He received the 2011 Harold Cottle Justice Award from the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault during an awards luncheon.

Powell was recognized by the association for his work in supporting victims, rape crisis programs, and survivors of rape.

Powell has been serving as Lubbock County's Criminal District Attorney since 2005 when he was appointed to the position by Governor Rick Perry. He was instrumental in bringing a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program to the Lubbock community. He currently serves as a board member of the Forensic Nurse Staffing of West Texas.
