Federal investigators say 30 or more Wells Fargo customers may have been the victim of an elaborate scheme to create counterfeit checks. Ashley Jerome Carter, 30, is facing federal charges of manufacturing counterfeit private securities. He remains in the Lubbock County Jail.
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
The girlfriend of a Lubbock man accused of running an elaborate counterfeit check scheme will also head to court.
Juquetia Chiles along with her 30-year-old boyfriend Ashley Carter face charges of manufacturing counterfeit private securities. FBI investigators say Chiles worked at the Lubbock Wells Fargo phone bank. They say through physical violence and threats, he forced her to give him account information of some 30 customers of Wells Fargo.
Many of those customers were here in Lubbock including Encompass Home Health, Lubbock Concrete, Pioneer Roofing Company and Protech Painting and Drywall, just to name a few. The amount he stole adds up to thousands of dollars. Court documents show the crimes took place over a three month period. As of Wednesday, Carter remains in the Lubbock County Jail however, records do not indicate the whereabouts of Chiles.
