The Texas Tech University
Presidential Lecture and Performance Series brings World Music superstar,
Anoushka Shankar, to Lubbock on Friday, March 30th at 7:00 pm in the
Allen Theatre, located in the Student Union Building (SUB) of Texas Tech
University.
Shankar breaks new ground in her newest album and Allen
Theatre show, Traveller:A Raga-Flamenco Journey, showcasing the
evolutionary bridge between flamenco and Indian music.
Using sitar, tabla, bansuri flute, percussion, Spanish
guitar and voice, musical pioneer Anoushka Shankar employs her stunning
virtuosity to create a powerful and mesmerizing collection of new pieces that
show yet again an artist at the very top of her game.
Included in the catalogue of
Anoushka Shankar recordings is the Grammy nominated Live
at Carnegie Hall. This 2001 recording brought her the honor of being the
youngest person ever nominated in the category of "Best World Music Album."
This was the first of two Grammy nominations. Shankar has toured
with her experimental group "The Anoushka Shankar Project" since 2007.
She has also shared the stage with artists such as Peter Gabriel, Herbie
Hancock, Elton John, Madonna, Nina Simone, Sting, and James Taylor — and in
2008 made a five-city duet tour of India with the legendary rock band, Jethro
Tull.
There
will be an opportunity to meet the artist at a CD signing immediately following
the concert.
General Admission tickets are
