LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - From mold to not washing hands, we have a heaping helping of violations to dish out in Food For Thought. Our first Low Performer is no stranger to our list, this week they have a whopping 10 critical violations.
Hong Kong at 4845 50th is a multiple repeat low performer. Chicken was cooling by the back door improperly. Raw eggs were thrown away because they were not at the safe cold temperature. Rice was not at the safe hot temperature and the report said: "rice was immersed in water, unable to tell what the process that was going on was". Employees were not washing their hands. Lemons were observed: "with heavy mold", and broken raw eggs were stored with unused eggs. Employee drinks were in the food prep area. Raw chicken cardboard boxes were being reused to store fried chicken and green beans; this poses the risk for cross contamination. There was no hot water available in the drink station because of a missing faucet. Several food contact surfaces were dirty. And finally, due to the high number of violations and repeat violations, the health inspectors report a demonstration of food safety knowledge was not observed. Most of these violations have been corrected.
You may have lined up here to fill a bowl of raw meat and veggies for a personalized stir-fry, but this week Genghis Grill at 6201 Slide Road grilled up 7 critical violations. Fried rice was not at the safe hot temperature and had to be thrown out. Employees were not washing their hands when changing tasks or when coming into the kitchen. A hand sink was being used to store metal items. Raw eggs were stored over ready to eat veggies; this poses the risk of cross contamination. There was no soap or paper towels at a hand sink. Spray bottles with no caps, covers, or labels were in the grill area. The washing machine was not sanitizing. Most of these violations have been corrected.
