Levelland man killed in Thursday night accident

LEVELLAND, TX (KCBD) -

Levelland Police say a Thursday night crash injured two people and took the life of a third.

The crash was just before 10 PM along Highway 114 on the eastern edge of town.  Police say Christian Saenz, 29, was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee too fast and crashed into the back of a pickup driven by Jacob Edward Houk, age not listed. EMS took Saenz to University Medical Center where he later died.

Houk and his passenger, Morgan Masters, were also taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to free all three persons from the wreckage.  KCBD NewsChannel 11 video shows that Houk's truck was a mangled ball of metal after the crash.  Even though Saenz' jeep did not appear to be as badly damaged, the impact appeared to be on the driver side.

DPS says traffic along the highway had to be diverted onto residential streets in the Kaufman Addition.  The crash also knocked down a utility pole.

At this time, police are saying speed is the only factor that appears to have been the cause.  An autopsy will be scheduled in Lubbock.
