DENVER CITY, TX (KCBD) -
Family members are trying to cope with the sudden loss of 11-year-old Alyssa Vaquera of Denver City.
Funeral services have been scheduled for March 14 at 2 p.m. at the Saint Williams Catholic Church in Denver City. Alyssa will be buried at the Denver City Memorial Park.
Alyssa was killed in a car accident Saturday in Gaines County at 12:48 a.m. DPS trooper John Barton says Alyssa's father Tomas Vaquera, 33, was driving eastbound on 62/180 near mile marker 232. He veered his F-250 pickup into the median, causing it to roll over. Alyssa was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vaquera was taken to Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, N.M where he remains in serious condition. Barton says he suffered head trauma.
DPS does not believe alcohol was a factor. They are looking into weather and lack of sleep as a factor.
