Whether you're Irish or not, Lubbock residents can experience life on the Emerald Isle this weekend. A local Celtic music group has three performances scheduled for the lucky holiday, but don't forget your green.
Roan Inish Damhsa is a Celtic group formed my P. J. Welch-Liggan in 2005. The name means Island dancing with the seals in Irish Gaelic. The band features traditional Irish instruments including the bodhran (drum), penny whistle and fiddle. They perform numerous times through out the year, but March 17th is the day they look forward to all year.'
"It's just an excuse to have fun and let your hair down," Welch-Liggans said.
The interactive show allows people to try their hands at the instruments and learn a dance from one of the groups Irish step dancers. Welch-Liggans said at first it takes people a while to warm up and volunteer.
"We have people come do Ceili dances, which is kinda like a step dance. It just get's people up and involved and it's kind of fun," Welch-Liggan said.
Roan Inish Damhsa will be performing at three different locations this weekend:
