Red Raiders close pool play with rout of Manhattan

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Texas Tech used an eight-run second inning to close the pool portion of the Seton Hall Classic with a 13-2 rout of Manhattan Saturday morning at Ivy Hill Park.

With the win, Tech (24-7) moves into tournament play undefeated and set to face Manhattan (1-12) once again at 1 p.m. (CT) this afternoon. The Jaspers have lost all three contests this weekend.

After each team put a run across in the first, Tech put the game out of reach with its eight-run inning that was highlighted by a leadoff home run by Raven Richardson and a two-run shot by Adriana Perez.

Emily Bledsoe also connected on the second of two doubles in the game, driving a liner to the gap in left center to bring around two runs. Bledsoe finished 3-for-4 in the game

She was one of three Red Raiders who posted multiple-hit games, joining Logan Hall (2-for-3) and Richardson (2-for-2), who was perfect at the plate for the second-straight game.

Melisa Ryba and Katelyn Williams both added two-run doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, as seven different Tech players registered a RBI in the game.

With the large lead early, Shanon Hays was able to turn to his bench as every traveling position player found their way into the lineup. Tech was able to do the same thing in its 11-0 victory over Seton Hall

Kelsey Dennis picked up the win for the Red Raiders after giving up a run off three hits and a walk over the opening three innings. Chandler Moore came in to surrender one run over the final two innings.

Michayla Romero (0-2) took the loss for Manhattan after giving up seven runs off seven hits over the first 1.2 innings. Kate Bowen and Kelsi Redding also made appearances out of the bullpen.

Amanda Paxson had a RBI single to tie the game in the first. The Jaspers did not score again until the fifth when Anna Gallacher brought in Jen Keller on a ground ball to second.

The Red Raiders matched their season high for hits (15) while their 13 runs also marked a new season high, beating the previous 11 put up against Utah State Feb. 19 and Friday against Seton Hall.

The win was Tech's 13th straight over non-conference opponents and seventh this week alone following a 3-0 start to the tournament and doubleheader sweeps of No. 23 New Mexico and Stony Brook.
