It's no secret spring can be tough on allergy sufferers, and most are predicting this year could be a doozy. We didn't have a harsh winter to kill bugs and all the stuff winter usually kills. However, a common remedy in Europe is really starting to catch on here, which is salt therapy.
There are about a dozen salt shops in the United States that offer 45 minute treatments where clients sit in salt rooms to breathe in pharmaceutical grade salt particles. Salt isn't a substitute, but a supplement to whatever your doctor has advised for better breathing.
Allergist Nastaran Safdarian said, "It loosens up the phlegm and the mucous. So when it does that, you're able to breathe better." "We use salt in allergies all the time. We use nasal saline rinses like the neti pot or the saline rinse."
Dr. Safdarian says you can get the benefit of a salt room in your own home. Ultrasonic salinzers look like a humidifier, but release a mist of salt and cost under a hundred dollars. Talk to your doctor if you think an ultrasonic salinizer might help you get through your spring allergies and more.
