Tech Fans Savor Tournament Win

It's hard to find fans who come any more loyal than Red Raider fans. Well over 100 people took an extended lunch break to go out to The Fox and Hound and root on their favorite team. NewsChannel 11 followed a few of them throughout the game.

Through the many ups and a few downs, Tech fans wouldn't have spent their time anywhere else Thursday but intently watching their Red Raiders take on number nine seeded Charlotte. Fan, Rick Dyer says, "They've (Charlotte) got a formidable team. Tech will have to earn the victory to come out on top."

Lubbock Mayor Marc McDougal could also be found rooting for the Raiders. "We're going to beat Charlotte and give St. Joseph's more than they want on Saturday."

Fan Sandy Reeves says, "They're going to give us a pretty tough game, but I think if we have our a game we can do it."

At the half, Tech was showing Charlotte exactly what they're made of, enjoying a 14 point lead and impressing fans. Rick said, "Tech looks solid on defense, rebounds are solid, offensive shooting is solid, great basketball game."

Mayor McDougal said, "Looks like the bench play picked up, and if we keep that up, we'll be able to take care of Charlotte."

That they did. The final score showed Tech over Charlotte by three points and now fans are setting their sights on a number one seed. Sandy says, "I'm so excited we won and I'm excited about us playing St. Joseph's." Rick says, "Let's win another one." and the Mayor adds, "A great win for Tech... the first tournament win since '96. I'm glad to get that under our belt and get another one on Saturday."
