Red Cross unveils new disaster relief trailer

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Just in time for wildfire season, the Red Cross has a brand new disaster relief trailer.

The trailer is a multi-purpose unit that can be used for different situations.

Bill Curnow with the Red Cross said the trailer is capable of opening a 100-bed shelter, but it can also be used as a firefighter rehab center.

During hot days, the trailer can provide shade and ice water for firefighters and other servicemen who need it.

Curnow said they were very excited to have this new capability.

"Life out here in West Texas is very unpredictable. So having a piece of equipment that can do several different things for us is pretty exciting," Curnow said.

The Red Cross received the trailer as part of a grant they received several years ago from the Wal-Mart foundation.

The meeting could provide powerful imagery to Catholic voters back in the United States as well as the possibility for conflict between a president and a pope who have not often seen eye-to-eye.
