Four people who were headed to Lubbock early Sunday morning were killed following a medical helicopter crash. The aircraft was transferring a patient from an Alpine hospital to University Medical Center in Lubbock, but it went down near Pyote.
The crew was taking a baby boy with respiratory distress along with his mother to UMC when the pilot lost communication and the helicopter went down.
"At 2:19 a.m., he was giving a heading of his location and he said, 'hold on a minute dispatch' and that was the last communication," says Bill Webster, CEO Medical Center Hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. An RN aboard the helicopter survived the crash. He is in serious but stable condition at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
