The city's drought contingency plan consists of three different phases phase one is currently in effect. It asks residents to voluntarily conserve water. However, the council may need to change phases two and three if the drought continues.
"What we passed today would be phase 2 and phase 3 Drought Contingency Plan which would get more restrictive and have more teeth in conserving water for the future. I don't believe we will see a period in the near future where we will implement that," says Lubbock Mayor, Marc McDougal.
The council will soon discuss those revisions with the water advisory board.
