It's a big day at UMC today for the most critical babies and their families to make the long-anticipated move to the brand new East Tower. The 43-million dollar tower provides the hospital's new family birth center and neo-natal intensive care unit. Normally, that NICU holds between 28 and 40 babies.
One person there said today, God was watching out for us since today, we just have 17 babies to move with their giraffe beds and other life saving equipment. Ironically, it was also sad today for the nurses and families, who left messages and thank you's on the walls of the old unit, recalling about 30 years of miracle stories in what was the regions first NICU unit in West Texas.
We were there when the last person left, and turned the lights off. Since expectant moms were allowed to move in a day early, there have already been 12 babies born there.
