Friday is the 10th anniversary of the Stork's Nest. It's a community wide baby shower for new moms who might not have the money to provide the clothes, baby equipment, and other items a newborn needs.
It works because the community steps up to provide everything from bottles to crib mattresses. Professionals step up to provide prenatal care in exchange for points, which pregnant women and new moms can use to buy baby items at the shower.
Dr. Linda Brice said, "If we reach our goal this time, we will have given back in the first 10 years a half-million dollars to the community to pregnant women, to pregnant teens, and baby items, and a lot of trade donations that the stork's next can use to educate them, and get them to good prenatal care."
The 10th anniversary Stork's Nest will be on display this Friday from 12:30 to 3:00 at the International Cultural Center. The School of Nursing is still taking monetary donations or new baby items. If you'd like to provide a gift, call 762-6730.
