A new concern about dental x-rays and this is not intended to alarm you, but make you aware of an important guideline from the American Dental Association.
Researchers at Yale studied nearly fifteen hundred patients with a common type of brain cancer. They found a possible link between that cancer and their exposure to dental x-rays. Specifically among those who had a bitewing exam more than once a year.
Here's what you need to know according to Dr. Peter Lockhart. "Dentists have been trained and they're reminded by the American Dental Association to use as little in the way of X radiation and take as few films as necessary in order to make a diagnosis and to treat patients appropriately."
The ADA recommends children receive an x-ray every one to two years, and adults every two to three years.
