SLATON, TX (KCBD) -

A man and a woman are in jail tonight after a Slaton drug bust. Steven Wheeler, Chief of the Slaton Police Department told KCBD NewsChannel 11 that a narcotics search and arrest warrant was initiated at a home in the 500 block of West Crosby around 9 a.m.

Methamphetamine and marijuana were found in the house. LSO, SWAT and the Slaton Police Department assisted in the raid. Two federal ATF agents were also involved. Slaton police arrested Terry Lynn Harris, 43 and Margie Gayle Whitlatch, 47.

Danielle Ruiz lives behind the house and was curious this morning when she woke up to all the commotion.

"I noticed that there was a lot of activity, so when I peaked over the fence to the other side, I noticed there were police squad cars there and guys dressed up in the SWAT team. So I knew something was going on," Ruiz said.

After all the incidents that have occurred over the past three months in the City of Slaton, Ruiz is concerned about the safety of her family.

"Whispers here and there that there's been a lot of drug activity here in Slaton. I think it's something that needs to be pinpointed, so in a small town, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case in this situation," Ruiz said.

Chief Wheeler hopes people realize the efforts that officials are taking to clean up the area. They searched numerous locations throughout Slaton during the day. The investigation is still underway.
