Texas Tech University, along with 16 other Texas colleges and universities took part in the first-ever Don't Mess with Texas Campus Cleanup Saturday. TxDot established this event based on research showing Texans ages 16-24 are the states most frequent litterers. This habit is not only ugly but also expensive - it costs TxDot $32 million taxpayer dollars to pick up the 1 billion pieces of litter discarded on Texas roadsides each year.
