LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
The Texas Department of Transportation is hoping to make drivers more aware of motorcyclists.
Monday they kicked off their campaign called "Look Twice for Motorcycles. Seeing them is Saving Them."
Corporal John Gonzalez addressed the crowd. He warned them that half of all fatal motorcycle accidents are blamed on vehicle drivers who say they never saw the motorcyclist.
But Gonzalez also said motorcyclists need to practice safety of their own. He encouraged them to wear their helmets as often as they can. He also asked them to not mix alcohol with drugs while riding a motorcycle.
According to national studies, a motorcyclist is five times more likely to be injured and 25 times more likely to die in a crash.
