LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Red Raiders seem to be in no rush to continue a series with Texas A&M, this coming after the Aggies' withdrawal from the Big 12 conference in favor of joining the Southeastern Conference later this summer.
Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt told KCBD he doesn't think 'the timing is right' for an out-of-conference matchup in any major sport.
"We have not," said Hocutt, asked if Tech had spoken to A&M officials about future games."It's not something we wouldn't be open considering to at the right time, but I'm not sure this is the right time. There's been no conversation on either side."
"It's unfortunate [A&M] has made the decision to leave, but we wish them well, and we're excited about the new Big 12 conference."
Not only is the Athletics Department excited about staying in the Big 12, they look forward to the new additions - Texas Christian University and West Virginia University.
"We're strengthening the league," said Hocutt. "When you look at losing Texas A&M, Missouri...we're bringing in two conference champions. We're bringing in the football conference champion of the Big East[West Virginia] and the Mountain West with TCU."
With the new-look Big 12 and the excitement around its new members going forward, it sounds as if the Red Raiders are booked for the time being.
