Friends Remember Landon Velasquez

When you talk to friends of Landon Velasquez there is one common theme and that's comedy. He was far and away the class clown, always bringing smiles wherever he went. He was a 16-year-old who loved music and playing his guitar, someone who brought people together with his genuine personality.

Frenship High School Students Mourn the Loss of their Own
Friday was tough for Frenship High School students and faculty. That community is mourning the death of a student who was killed in an accident Thursday afternoon.

Brad Hughes, Landon's friend says, "I'm still in shock, can't believe any of this is happening." Landon Ketchersid says, "It was sickening. I couldn't believe one of my friends died that fast." Josh Cortez says, "It's like a bad dream. I still can't believe it happened."

Jason Cannon remembers Landon, saying, "Every memory I have with him is just funny. I can't help but smile when I think of him.. He always made me laugh." Robin West, one of Landon's teachers, describes him as "Quite the entertainer. He took his role as class clown very seriously." Brad Hughes agrees, "Most people don't' have the ability to have so much fun in life." Connie Fanmiller another one of Landon's teachers says, "When I think of him, I think of smiles. He was always smiling and brought us smiles."

Landon Ketchersid remembers with a smile, "We skipped a class once and went to Krispy Kreme and he got in school suspension and I got off." Josh says, "He was a brilliant guitarist. He had a future ahead of him."

Robin says, "He was very charismatic. He'll leave a very big void. He'll be missed." Landon agrees, "I can't just think how sad it is, I have to think how happy he made me while he was still here." Brad says, "When most people die, you think back and your sad and it's like you're so upset.. When you think back to Landon, you can just smile, because every memory you've had is one you cherish." Josh says, "He'll never be forgotten, he'll always be with us in our hearts."

Landon's friends also told us how close he was to his girlfriend, Sarah Elkins. Their prayers go out to her. She was with him when the accident happened and is still in critical condition at UMC.

A memorial fund has been set up in Landon Velasquez' memory at Peoples Bank. The address is 5820 82nd Street. For more information you can call (806) 794-0044.
