Yo-Yo Ma to perform with Lubbock Symphony Orchestra

World-renowned cellist and composer Yo-Yo Ma will perform with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 10 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre. Ma is often regarded as the most gifted and famous cellist of the modern age.

The LSO's OPENING NIGHT GALA will also be noted by the launch of a new era at the LSO as David In-Jae Cho assumes the role of Music Director.  Repertoire for the event will include Overture to The Bartered Bride by Smetana, Czech Suite, Op. 39 in D Major by Dvořák, and Slavonic Dances, Op. 72 no. 2, 7 by Dvořák.  

The LSO's signature 2012.2013 season will mark the 66th in the orchestra's history.  Repertoire will be diverse represented by beloved audience favorites by Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Rachmaninoff and Brahms.  The season will also include a holiday presentation of Handel's Messiah and a collaboration with Ballet Lubbock.  The season will come to grand conclusion with a presentation of Mahler's majestic Symphony No. 1 in D Major "Titan."
